The Canon EOS R7 is an impressive tool for anyone who wants to take their photography and video production to the next level. As the first model in the EOS R series with an APS-C sensor, it has been designed specifically for advanced amateurs and semi-professional users. With an incredible combination of performance, speed and versatility, the EOS R7 offers features that will delight sports, wildlife and action photographers in particular, but will also impress videographers.

APS-C sensor and ISO performance

At the heart of the Canon EOS R7 is the 32.5 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor. This sensor not only delivers razor-sharp images, but also benefits from the APS-C format, which offers a crop factor of 1.6x. This makes distant subjects appear closer, which is particularly advantageous for telephoto shots in wildlife and sports photography.

The camera offers a wide ISO sensitivity that can be adapted to a wide range of lighting conditions. In photo mode, the ISO setting ranges from ISO 100 to 32,000 and can be extended to ISO 51,200. This makes the EOS R7 extremely powerful even in low light and delivers low-noise, detailed images. For video recordings, the camera supports ISO values from 100 to 12,800, which ensures consistently high image quality in difficult lighting situations.

Image processing and speed

In addition to the outstanding sensor, the Canon EOS R7 is equipped with the powerful DIGIC X image processor. This processor ensures fast image processing and an impressive shooting speed. The EOS R7 achieves up to 30 frames per second (fps) when using the electronic shutter and 15 fps with the mechanical shutter. This high speed is ideal for capturing fast movements and action scenes without any delays.

Of particular note is the Deep Learning Autofocus, taken from Canon's professional EOS R3. This advanced system automatically detects and tracks subjects such as people, animals and vehicles, ensuring precise focusing. The autofocus works down to a light value of -5 EV, which means that the camera still recognizes and focuses on subjects even in almost complete darkness.

Electronic viewfinder with 120 bps and OVF simulation

The Canon EOS R7 is equipped with an electronic viewfinder (EVF) with 2.36 million pixels for a clear and detailed image preview. The viewfinder's high refresh rate of 120 frames per second (fps) is particularly impressive. Another highlight of the viewfinder is that it is blackout-free. Question: What is the crop factor of the R7?
Answer: The R7 uses an APS-C sensor from Canon with a crop factor of 1.6x.

Question: Which lenses can I use with the camera?
Answer: RF and RF-S lenses can be attached directly to the camera, EF and EF-S lenses can be used with an EF-RF adapter. EF-M Lens are not compatible with the R7.

Question: What is the AF/MF switch on the front of the camera for?
Answer: Some RF-S Lens do not have their own AF/MF switch, so Canon has added the switch to the camera so that you can easily switch between auto and manual focus without having to search for the corresponding option in the menu. If the Lens has its own switch, this overrides the setting on the camera.

Question: What does "pre-recording with RAW burst" mean?
Answer: This is Canon's term for the "pre-shooting" function, whereby the camera continuously takes photos with the electronic shutter as soon as the shutter release button is pressed halfway down, but only stores them temporarily in the buffer. Only when the shutter release button is pressed fully down are the photos saved together as a RAW burst file on the SD card. This allows you to photograph unpredictable situations such as a kingfisher diving into the water!

Überzeugende spiegellose Systemkamera
Die R7 habe ich als Austausch für meine 90D gekauft.
Skeptisch war ich gegenüber Systemkameras. Aber die R7 hat mich überzeugt in Bilderqualität, Komfort und Bedienung. Jetzt tausche ich meine 6D II gegen eine R6 II.
