Image quality
LUMIX S1 - High resolution, high sensitivity The LUMIX S1 full-frame mirrorless camera uses a 23.8x35.6mm 24.2 million pixel CMOS sensor with wide dynamic range and excellent signal-to-noise ratio even at high ISO settings. Efficient pixel design, combined with the powerful Venus Engine processor, enables standard ISO settings up to ISO 51,200.
LUMIX S1R - Highest resolution without low-pass filter
The already high level of detail of the high-resolution 47.3 megapixel CMOS full-frame sensor is further enhanced by the absence of a low-pass filter. This means that even the finest subject structures are captured in the image with great detail.
New aspherical microlenses in front of each pixel improve light capture by the sensor. The result is particularly low noise even at high ISO values. With its working range of up to ISO 25,600, the LUMIX S1R is also suitable for use in low light conditions.
High Resolution (HR) mode - when a little more is needed...
If even more detail is required, the High Resolution (HR) mode of both models can help. It combines information from eight images taken with minimally offset sensor positions
. The result with the LUMIX S1 is 96 megapixel photos with a resolution of 12,000 x 8,000 pixels. With the S1R, there are even 187 million pixels with a resolution of 16,736 x 11,168 pixels, which are saved as RAW files. The system can suppress motion blur in the subject.
Double image stabilization
The 5-axis Body I.S. (Sensor Shift) system compensates for the effects of camera shake, allowing up to 5.5 stops*1 longer freehand shots. In combination with the 2-axis O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) in the Lens of the LUMIX S series, this Dual I.S. system increases the degree of compensation to 6 stops*2, compensating for various camera movements in both photo and video recording*3. Using the latest technology, it utilizes not only information from a gyro sensor but also from a CMOS sensor and an accelerometer to measure vibration. To help photographers eliminate the sources of possible camera shake, the LUMIX S cameras also offer an I.S. status display with a graphical interpretation of the vibrations.

L-MountAlliance:
Strategic cooperation between Leica Camera, Panasonic and Sigma
System cameras allow extremely flexible use due to their numerous interchangeable components and can be individually configured according to requirements. The bayonet is the most important interface, as the Lens plays a decisive role in the imaging performance and thus in the final image quality. Thanks to the strategic partnership between Leica, Panasonic and Sigma, customers will be able to choose from a wider selection of cameras and lenses in the future, without having to commit themselves to individual manufacturers because they use proprietary bayonets, as has been the case up to now.
Dr. Andreas Kaufmann, Chairman of the Supervisory Board and majority shareholder, Leica Camera AG: "A wide selection for their chosen camera system is extremely important to photographers. Especially in the ever-growing market for mirrorless system cameras, there is an ever-increasing variety of different user requirements. In order to be able to meet these requirements at short notice, we have decided to work together with renowned partners from the photographic industry. We have worked with Panasonic for many years in a spirit of partnership and trust, and their expertise in electronics is undisputed. Sigma is also a respected company that has established itself particularly in the field of optical development and with its innovative products can offer a perfect addition to our existing L-mount portfolio. We are convinced that together with our partners we can realize mutual and sustainable growth for all our products."
Mr. Tetsuro Homma, Senior Managing Executive Officer, Panasonic Corporation: "Panasonic's focus has always been on revolutionizing the camera market and making photographers' lives easier, more advanced and more enjoyable. Our long-standing partnership with Leica has produced numerous high-performance, high-quality digital cameras by combining Leica's leading optical technology with Panasonic's digital technologies. This partnership has enabled us to drive the development of excellent products for digital photography. The L-mount alliance with Leica and Sigma is a prime example of the traction of our collaboration. This alliance of strong companies will fundamentally change the future of the photographic industry. As a market challenger, we have always driven innovation with the slogan 'Changing Photography' to meet the high expectations of professional photographers. Our partnership with Leica and Sigma will bring additional business opportunities to our companies, but most importantly, it will continue to bring great joy to our customers' photography."
Mr. Kazuto Yamaki, Chief Executive Officer, SIGMA Corporation: "With the evolution of cameras to digital and mirrorless, the demands of users and systems have also changed. Currently, there is an almost overwhelming choice of different systems, but they do not yet meet all the needs of users, especially in the areas of expandability and flexibility. SIGMA joins this alliance to develop mirrorless cameras that benefit from the short flange focal length. As SIGMA strives to develop high quality and innovative high performance products, this alliance will greatly advance both the realization and expandability of our camera system and thus also significantly increase the benefits for our customers. Leica is a great company and has made a significant impact on photography for more than 100 years, and Panasonic is a market leader in many different areas due to its proven developments. Together with SIGMA's high quality, high performance and unique products, the L-Mount will become an extremely attractive system for potential users."
About the L-Mount:
The L-Mount was developed by Leica Camera with the aim of providing customers with a future-proof, flexible, robust and precise bayonet that meets all photographic requirements, no matter how demanding. After its original introduction in 2014 in the Leica T, the L-Mount has been continuously developed by Leica Camera and its partners, resulting in an improved and virtually new L-Mount technology.
To ensure the widest possible range of usable products, the diameter of the L-Mount, at 51.6 millimetres, has been dimensioned so that it is suitable not only for cameras with a full-frame format, but also with an APS-C sensor. The small flange focal distance of just 20 millimetres enables a small distance between the optics and the sensor, which means that Lens can be designed to be much more compact - this is particularly helpful for developments in the wide-angle range. In order to withstand even the heaviest loads and guarantee customers maximum safety during many years of intensive use, camera bayonets are made of wear-resistant stainless steel and have four flange segments, which prevents tilting and ensures a particularly firm and flat fit of the lens. The standardized L-mount contact strip ensures smooth communication between the electronic components in the lens and camera - including the possibility of firmware updates for lenses in order to react to technical developments and thus ensure full performance in the future.
The Leica SL system in full-frame format and the APS system with the Leica CL, TL2 and TL camera models currently use the lens mount. All lenses of the various systems can be used on all cameras without restrictions and without adapters - this is already one of the many advantages that customers have thanks to the standardized bayonet. In the near future, Leica Camera AG as well as Panasonic and Sigma will announce further products that use the uniform standard.
The LUMIX S1 with its 24 megapixel sensor and a wide range of video functions can be used universally. The full sensor readout in 4K 30p video mode works without limiting the original Lens image angle.

Creative imaging made easy
New photo styles include HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma)*1 photo modes for vivid images with high dynamic range. It preserves the detail in the highlights, making them suitable for picture playback on the latest HLG-compliant 4K TVs from Panasonic via HDMI cable connection or other HLG-compliant devices. Images captured in HLG modes can be saved as HSP files in 8K resolution as well as JPEG and RAW formats.
For an individual look, the camera's internal setting options offer the photographer great flexibility when capturing JPEGs. Each photo style can be customized, new styles can be created and saved. A "Flat" option creates JPEGs with flat contrast and reduced saturation as flexible source material for post-processing.
When shooting portraits, the new AWBw white balance produces an attractive, slightly warm tone, and a new highlight-emphasized metering mode promotes the retention of detail in the brightest areas of the image. New panorama aspect ratios expand the design possibilities: 65:24 film panorama and 2:1 widescreen formats offer additional dimensions right from the shooting stage.
