One of the best standard lenses in the world
Is a 55 mm focal length always just a middle ground? One that lacks the appeal of the special? Not when this Lens combines over 120 years of optical and mechanical excellence from ZEISS!

Experience the quality and look of a medium format system with the Otus® 1.4/55 from ZEISS. Because whether you're shooting day or night, closer or a little further away, photographing people, objects or landscapes - this Lens will impress you with its high resolution and outstanding sharpness in any shooting situation. It is, in short, the best standard lens in the world.

Design
Unlike its predecessors with similar focal length and speed, this normal-angle Lens adopts the Distagon-type optical design for the first time. Only this optical concept with its significantly longer construction allows uniformly good correction right into the image corners and very low image field curvature, even at very high initial apertures.

Highest image contrast
Aberrations become particularly apparent in night shots with large differences in brightness. Thanks to the excellently corrected lateral chromatic aberration, the luminous facade is reproduced absolutely perfectly.

No color fringes
Light sources that lie in front of or behind the focus distance are a special challenge for any Lens. With the ZEISS Otus, the longitudinal chromatic aberration is so low that virtually no color fringing occurs.

Medium format look
Thanks to its outstanding sharpness, the ZEISS Otus makes optimum use of modern high-resolution sensors and rewards you with impressive resolution in your images. Down to the smallest detail.

Apochromat
As an apochromat, the chromatic aberrations (longitudinal chromatic aberrations) in the lens are corrected by lenses made of special glass with anomalous partial dispersion. The chromatic aberrations are therefore well below defined limits. Light-dark transitions in the image and especially highlights are reproduced largely free of colored artifacts.

Aspherical design
The aspherical lens design ensures consistent imaging performance over the entire focus range as well as image sharpness at the image periphery. The more complex surface profile of the aspheric can reduce or even prevent spherical aberration and reduce other optical aberrations compared to a simple Lens.
